Beautiful Dooars

The name Dooars came from the word 'Duar' meaning door in the local language. It is also known as the gateway to North East India and Bhutan, an adjacent plain area that rests on the foothills of Eastern Himalayas. It stretches over a wide range of 8,800 sq km well-known for its rich biodiversity, vast tea gardens, the lush green texture of grasslands, dense vegetation, a number of wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, and many other rare species. The land is bordered with the sparkling River Teesta along with Sankosh, Torsa, Raidhak etc. keeping the soil fertile for vegetation.

Dooars is a paradise for nature's lover as the region offers a plentiful of exploration. It is the home of five major national parks and sanctuaries each describing their own uniqueness. One can definitely go and take a glimpse of Asian Elephants, Royal Bengal Tigers, Clouded Leopard, Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Gaur, Pangolin, Python, Indian wolves and Rhinos in their habitat. You may also visit the orchards of Suntaleykhola, the ruins of Buxa Fort and refresh yourselves in the serene resorts at the lap of nature.

Gorumara National Park

The Gorumara National Park is located on the floodplains of Jaldhaka and Murti rivers which have emerged as a fabulous tourist destination. This place should not be a miss on the trip to Dooars for it is the home of the famous Asiatic one-horned Rhino and 50 species of mammals, 194 species of birds etc.

Buxa Tiger Reserve

Buxa is the largest forest in North Bengal having the second highest tiger population. The park is a perfect destination for wildlife lovers and at the same time of historic importance if you further see the Buxa Fort and Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Mandir.

Samsing & Suntaleykhola

Samsing is another ideal place for nature`s lover as you come across the most rejuvenating and scenic tea gardens of Dooars including Zurantee Tea Garden, Samsing Tea Garden, Chalsa Tea Garden. Suntaleykhola meaning the `orange stream` is an appropriate place for tourists to stay over night.

Chapramari Wildlife Reserve

River Murti divides Chapramari and Gorumara National Park. Therefore, Chapramari is an extension of Gorumara National Park, though small but oldest in India. This park is a home of different deers, reptiles and famous for elephant population.

Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is a vast grassland planted on the foothills of Eastern Himalayas along the bank of river Torsa covering an area of 216.51 sq km. Jaldapara gives us the amusement of elephant riding, sight-seeing the Asiatic one-horned Rhino.

Jaldhaka

During your trip to Dooars, you come across an old tourist destination called the valley of Jaldhaka, 1500 ft above sea level. Jaldhaka is a quaint tourist spot which offers a variety of lodging supplements and accompanies you a care-free beauty trip.

WAY TO REACH SIKKIM

 

On the journey to Dooars, travelers can beautifully enjoy the picturesque view of Tea Gardens, grassland stretches, flora and fauna, and wildlife.

However, Bagdogra airport is the nearest airway that connects Dooars despite there is the provision of local rental vehicles. Madarihaat Railway Station and New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) is the nearest railhead. Besides, many North Bengal State Corporation & private buses also ride towards Dooars.
